It was the second time staying at the anchor inn whittonstall snow on the ground the anchor looked like a Christmas card on arrival the owner couldn't be more helpful The room was ready for us we went down to the bar sat in front of the fire and enjoyed the ambience we have eaten at the restaurant on our last visit and the food is excellent and this time it was just as good table staff excellent couldn't be more helpful we stayed for two nights the bus service to Hexham on the Saturday is brilliant the bus pick's you up outside the pub and drops you off right outside on return also the breakfast at the anchor is probably the best we have had on a weekend break the girls doing the breakfast service are top class as are the owner's and the bar staff. many thanks Kevin and Theresa

Stayed two nights and had a lovely time. Really liked the Inn, staff were very friendly, everywhere was very clean and our room was really cosy and had a wonderful view. The beds were very comfortable, plenty of pillows and cushions. Tea making facilities, bottled water, hair dryer, straighteners even, little bottles of shampoo and body wash, really fluffy towels and a toweling robe in the wardrobe. Food/menu was great, we didn't have to wait long for the meal to arrive, the portions were large and I couldn't eat it all and the chips weren't nice at all, but apart from that I would certainly return. The bar in the evening was really welcoming and dog friendly.

Firstly, the location is spectacular, with far-reaching views over some stunning countryside. The room I was in [Castle] was large, modern with king-size bed. Very comfortable with high quality bedding. The shower room was modern clean with great pressure walk in shower. Then we get to the food and bar, I can not tell you how good the food is. With a variety of home made pies and the best chips I have ever had. The selection of beers was endless and atmosphere in the bar was perfect. A brilliant place. I would definitely stay again.

Brilliant 3 night stay for New Year Room lovely, spotlessly clean. Extremely comfortable King size bed, beautiful bed linen , towels and dressing gowns. ( wee issue with radiator thermostat we were roasted @ 31degs so got the manager to turn it off completely this didn’t change our rating in the slightest) Restaurant & Bar just perfect as was the exceptional food, fantastic menu , so much to choose from. Thank you so much to Dan & the team for a lovely stay to celebrate New Year Anne-Marie & Davy ( Edinburgh)

Check-in was straightforward. We were taken to room, which was bigger than expected, and had both welcome tray & dressing gowns. Free wi-fi worked well; both in room & in bar/restaurant. Breakfast was so good, we booked for an evening meal too; which we also thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely quiet countryside location, but within easy reach of main routes: 1 mile to A68, and only 6 miles to A69. We definitely plan to return.
